Liverpool 2-2 Cardiff (after extra time - Liverpool win 3-2 on penalties)
Liverpool won their first silverware since 2006 as they overcame spirited Cardiff 3-2 on penalties in the Carling Cup final at Wembley.
Anthony Gerrard's miss at the end of the shoot-out ensured victory for the Reds after the match finished 2-2 following a pulsating 120 minutes of action.
Glen Johnson struck the bar for Liverpool in the opening minutes but Joe Mason put Cardiff on their way as he finished from inside the area after just 18 minutes.
The Championship side held off their Barclays Premier League rivals until the hour mark when Martin Skrtel pounced to fire in after Luis Suarez's header hit the post.
In extra time Dirk Kuyt thought he had won it for Liverpool with his neat side-footed finish, but Ben Turner prodded in after 117 minutes to force a penalty shoot-out.
Both sides missed efforts in the shoot-out, but after Johnson scored, Gerrard - cousin of Liverpool star Steven - put his wide to spark celebrations among the Reds' fans.
